Welcome to Lighty2Go!

Lighty2Go is a, portable LightTPD, MySQL & PHP (LiMP) stack on a stick for Windows. Take it with you on your USB thumdrive and have some fun. For Lighty2Go to exist and to have gotten to where it is there are many THANKS to be handed out.
Please visit the Project Page to see where Lighty2Go was inspired from.
Lighty2Go uses bits of code and parts from several projects to bring you a portable LightTPD, MySQL, PHP app for Windows. You may not see a reason for LiMP on a stick, or be wondering why I did this. I guess it's because I happen to really like portable apps and this was kind of a proof of concept type thing.

Sorry folks - Another Bugfix Release version 1.5.2

So as noticed and mentioned in the comments for the 1.5.1 bugfix release there was another bug that was noticed. This one looks like it was just my fault by missing a directory in the MySQL folder structure. So version 1.5.2 is now available and should have this issue fixed.
Sorry everyone.

Version 1.5.2 is available here.

Quick bugfix release - v1.5.1

There was a small bug mentioned in the comments of the post for the version 1.5 release. I have corrected the bug and re-released the package as version 1.5.1.
Version 1.5.2 is available here.

New Release! Version 1.5 is Available

OK all this took a long time to come, sorry for that, real life things got a little busy for a while.

Version 1.5 is a major new release and contains many updated packages, fixes, and new tools.  Version 1.4 has been pulled, it had some odd issues with the versions of LightTPD and MySQL it contained and their use on Windows Vista, so I started fresh again for the 1.5 version.

So let’s get the details of the new versions out of the way, Lighty2Go v1.5 includes:

LightTPD 1.4.20
MySQL 5.0.67
PHP 5.2.6
MiniPerl 5.8.8
OpenSSL 0.9.8i
phpMyAdmin 3.0.1.1

This latest version and all new versions will be distributed in .7z format. This was an excellent suggestion mentioned in the forum so if you are not familiar with .7z files you will want to grab a copy of the excellent open-source file compression utility 7-Zip to be able to open the .7z files.

There also was a bug posted in the forum about the temp location was for PHP sessions and some users were experiencing issues on ‘locked-down’ PCs writing to the default location.  I have now adjusted the location to point to the TMP folder within the Lighty2Go directory structure so that should no longer be an issue.

The next item to point out is really cool.  In response to some talk and requests in the forum, and a slick contribution from forum member Tobbe, Light2Go now has a ’settings’ page that can be opened once the servers are running and you can make some adjustments to the settings of Lighty2Go to fit to your style and/or liking.  You can get to the settings page from the traytool or by going to http://127.0.0.1/settings once the servers are up.

The new version has been tested on both Windows XP and Windows Vista and all functions have shown to work OK.  However, since I have been away from the project for quite a while there could very well be some issues to resolve that I might have overlooked after being away for some time.

Thanks to everyone that contributes to, enjoys and plays with Lighty2Go and for being interested in my little project.  Sorry for keeping you waiting so long for a new release but I hope that you like what this new version has to offer.

Quick update on next release

Just wanted to drop a quick note and let people know that a new version of Lighty2Go is in the works and on the way.  I have run into a couple issues with the latest ports of LIGHTTPD (1.4.19) and MySQL (5.0.67).

From what I can see so far … it looks like the issues might be Windows Vista specific but I am trying to debug them and work them out so that the next L2G version will still work on both Windows XP and Windows Vista.

So stay tuned and I hope to have a new package ready for testing by this weekend.

Meanwhile there have been a few suggestions lately over in the forums about some new applications to add in to L2G.  I would like to put some of these to a poll and see if there are apps that people are more interested in then others.  Please leave additional/different suggestions in comments.

New Release Version 1.3 available

Hey All.
I have a new release of Lighty2Go ready for download version 1.3. The new version brings with it a new Start-Lighty2Go.exe file that is very slick! (Thanks Tobbe)
And then there is an update for the new version of phpMyAdmin 2.11.4.
So as always give it a run and let me know if you encounter any problems or errors.

Lighty2Go v1.3 is available here.

New Release! Version 1.2 is available.

Lighty2Go has a new release out that has a lot of good news.
Starting off with one of the coolest new features, Lighty2Go should now work if extracted to any location. Thanks to the efforts of Tobbe from the forum L2G should run without issue from just about any path you extract it to.

The next item that was addressed the known issue some of us had seen if you tried to run L2G and CygWin was installed on the PC this item was also commented on here. After doing some testing with some different versions of the cygwin dll’s I believe that I have found one that works fine for both getting LightTPD to run and does not require any umount commands to be issued to your CygWin environment.
Anyone that can test this and report success OR failure that would be great.

And last but not least are the packages that were updated for v1.2:
- MySQL 5.0.50 Updated
- PHP 5.2.5 Updated
- OpenSSL 0.9.8g Updated
- phpMyAdmin 2.11.2.2 Updated

So that’s all the news for now - Go grab a copy of v1.2 and give it a run.
Test things like the any path fix and the CygWin fix and let me know what you see in your environments.

Version 1.2 is available here.
